Faces January
February 2, 2010
The first month of my Faces project is complete. I managed to capture a total of twelve portraits, including the one of Angus, my per Turtle. I have another nine turtles, so they’ll give me one shot a month till October. Below are the best nine of those shots, and you can vote for the best one of the month. The poll is in the sidebar on the right. You can choose up to three photos to vote for.

Paola, Fiddler and Sax Man, clearly. Now get that freaking turtle outa my face!
I have only known two turtle nuts in my life. The other was obviously disturbed. I worked with him for years. So . . . what am I to conclude?
I’ve always been rather fond of turtles, but the current brood living in my yard wasn’t entirely obtained with deliberate intent. So perhaps I’m not disturbed. Then again, I did move to Mexico City, leaving behind my life of comfort and plentiful water in the UK behind…
Without looking at any voting – I voted the same three as Felipe – that scares me.
It would scare me too.
They are all excellent photos, they are all worthy..

Thanks Mr X
Great. Both Felipe and John Cotton have voted the exact same way as I have. I really wanted to vote for the Fiddler first, especially since I had just seen the photograph on your flickr a few days ago and I was appalled by the critiques you received! Still…come on…this is obvious…the wife/wifey/Mrs/Ruler of the Kingdom and Denness Domain…must logically go first.
P.S-It was between sax-man and Angus the turt for 3rd place. I change my answer! Angus is too adorable.
Oops sorry, John Calypso, not Cotton.
Angus is the sweetest, really. Also the fattest and laziest, which is why his photo came first – too lazy to move away from my camera! More turt photos will follow!
The critiques were fair btw. The Flickr group the comments came from are all very talented, shooting with thousands of dollars worth of equipment. My snaps are held up to their standard. The fact that the photo got one more piece of positive critique than negative meant it went to the Lightbox, which is photo heaven. Very, very few of my photos make it there. Four so far.
Gary – The eyes have it! Fiddler (Fab), Ponder, and Sax (sounds like my youthful weekends!)
Cheers!

I was pleased with the fiddler shot. Especially as the original wasn’t terribly great. I had to do some careful post processing to get a decent photo out of it.

Really looking forward to getting a new camera shortly, with a much more potent zoom and faster lens. Should improve my chances of getting a few more candid portraits!
